To me, this image just epitomises the opportunity that the harbourfront cycleway can fulfil. This space, between the water’s edge and the sprawling, obstructive entrance to the Western Harbour Tunnel, currently has almost zero value to anyone. There are two trucks parked there, up against the fence.
But it forms a crucial connection between sections of the harbourfront that can be opened up. And look at the view, across to West Kowloon with Lion Rock and the hills behind Kowloon peninsula, and the Tsing Ma Bridge and active Western harbour.
Just along the waterfront, also hard to reach from inland, is the new Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park.
With the cycleway and promenade through here the whole area is brought to life. Connected, enabled.
